Riding a huge wave of publicity from its comic featuring Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Devil’s Due Comics will release a new comic one-shot tied to a political figure: Talk Bernie to Me!: The Bernie Sanders Special and AOC Surprise, in July, the company announced. 

Contributors will include Josh Blaylock, Tim Seeley, Hoyt Silva, Marguerite Dabaie, Paul Buhle, Gary Dumm, and more.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the ACLU and RaicesTexas.org, which provides legal services to under-served immigrant children, families, and refugees. 

Over 1000 media outlets covered Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: New Party, Who Dis? (see “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ‘Humbled’ By Her Superhero Comic”), which will street on May 15, Devil’s Due Publisher Josh Blaylock told ICv2.  “It’s been the most talked-about comic in the world, at least in April,” he said. 

Initial Diamond orders came in lower than they did for 2009’s Barack the Barbarian, Devil’s Due’s last comic about a famous politician, but Blaylock suspects the AOC comic was underordered based on the press coverage, which far outstripped the coverage of the Obama comic.  Ten retailer variants are planned, and Devil’s Due will overprint a modest amount. “I want to reward the people that ordered it up front,” Blaylock explained.  Talk Bernie To Me! will include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez content to encourage cross-over purchases.
