Wizards of the Coast has announced the first Transformers TCG Energon Invitational tournament, which will include both in-store events through its organized play program and events at major game conventions.

The new program combines organized play events held in participating retail stores with more structured tournament events held during conventions:

For participating stores, Wizards is offering Transformers TCG War for Cybertron:  Siege I In-Store Play Kit, which ties in with June’s War for Cybertron:  Siege I booster pack expansion (see "‘Transformers TCG’ Goes to War").  The kit is designed to support in-store events from July 1 through September 30.  Each participating store will select one “store champion” through sanctioned in-store events, who will get an invitation to the Energon Invitational championships.  Participants are also eligible for promo card prizes.

Two constructed play format open tournaments will be held during the summer, the first at the Origins Game Fair and the second at Gen Con.  Participants will receive War for Cybertron: Siege I booster packs, and 32 finalists will be awarded cash prizes up to $1500.  The top 16 finalists will receive invitations to the championship, and the top 8 will also be awarded Transformers TCG product.

The Transformers TCG Energon Invitational will be held at PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia, PA, December 6-8.  The tournament will be supported by a $20,000 prize pool, with cash prizes going to the top 32 contestants.  Product prizes will also be awarded to the top 8 finishers, and the tournament’s champion will have an opportunity to work with Wizards’ Transformers TCG design team to design a new character card for the game.

Events supporting the Energon Invitational are an expansion to existing Transformers TCG organized play programs (see "‘Transformers TCG’ Introduces New OP Formats").
