Toho, the Japanese studio that launched Godzilla in 1954, has announced the December 11 debut of Godzilla Final Wars, the twenty-eighth production in this long-running kaiju series. Godzilla Final Wars will run about a half hour longer than any of predecessors, and it will be the last Godzilla film for quite some time. Producer Shogo Tomiyama told Yahoo Japan: 'From here on it will be at least 5-10 years before another production. We will pour 50 years of experience into this commemorative work and make it the best.'
In the new film Godzilla will face Mothra and a who's who of monsters from his past, but a new nemesis, Monster X, will prove to be Godzilla's toughest foe yet. Locations for the film include New York, Paris, Shanghai and Japan. Ryuuhei Kitamura (Azumi) will direct the new Godzilla film will debut exactly fifty years after the first Godzilla film opened on December 11, 1954.
