DC 100-Page Giant comics will no longer be sold in Walmart, the company announced, and will be replaced by shrink-wrapped four-packs of recent DC comics. The four-packs will be priced at an economical $8.98, and each will include a collectible backer board with a different DC character illo by Ivan Reis. The backer boards together will depict the Justice League.
The program is designed to attract customers exposed to DC characters by other media, according to DC Vice President, Sales Nancy Spears, "…an audience that continues to use movies, television, home video and video games as their gateways to superhero storytelling."
The new program is beginning this weekend in 2,900 stores. DC will make the four-packs available to comic stores beginning in September.
DC’s 100 Page Giants have been in about the same number of Walmart stores for almost exactly two years (see "Walmart To Carry Exclusive DC Comics in 3,000 Stores").
Walmart began selling multi-packs of Marvel comics earlier this year.
