Three industry veterans, writer Roger Stern and artists Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema, will collaborate on The Heroes Union #1, a new superhero comic to be published by Binge Books as a 68-page comic that contains a complete story for $4.99. The Heroes Union #1 will be released on August 4 and will available for preorder from Diamond Comic Distrinbutors. Each copy will be individually numbered.
The cover of Heroes Union #1 will carry the seal of the Comics Code Authority, the first comic in over a decade to do so, through a special arrangement with the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, which owns the rights (see “CBLDF Acquires Comics Code Authority Seal”). The story, which features business-oriented superheroes named Startup, Windfall, and Protegé will be “family friendly,” according to the publisher.
Sal Buscema has been a comic penciller and inker for almost 70 years, a career that included 100-issue runs on The Incredible Hulk and The Spectacular Spider-Man. Stern and Frenz were the creative team for the story “The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man,” which appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #248 and is considered one of the top Spider-Man stories of all time.
Binge Books creator Darin Henry, who also helms Sitcomics, said the 68-page format was designed to cater to modern readers who like to binge content such as streaming television shows. He has previously released several “Binge Book” format comics via Sitcomics (see “Sitcomics Plans Wave of New ‘Binge Book’ Releases”).
