Peggy Carter will step into her new role as Captain Carter in a five-issue miniseries that will debut in March 2022.

In Marvel Studios’ What If… Captain Carter were the First Avenger? Peggy Carter, not Steve Rogers, took the Super-Soldier Serum and became Captain Carter. Frozen for decades, Carter emerges from the ice with more questions than answers, as she has to learn to navigate the modern world while figuring out which side she wants to be on.

Jamie McKelvie (Young Avengers, The Wicked + The Divine) will write the story and design Captain Carter’s new look, and Marika Cresta (Star Wars: Doctor Alpha) will be the artist for the series. The first issue will have a regular and a design variant cover, both by McKelvie, and will be released on March 9.

“I'm as big a fan of the Captain Carter we've seen onscreen as anybody, so I jumped at the chance to create our own version,” McKelvie said in a statement in Marvel’s announcement. “I'm having a great time exploring what it would be like for Peggy to wake up nearly 80 years after the end of the war. The world remembers the myth of Captain Carter, but to Peggy the reality was just yesterday. Now she finds herself in a nearly unrecognizable new world, how does she fit in? Can she be the super hero people want her to be? Exploring these questions has been really exciting, and I love the world Marika and I have come up with. I can't wait for people to see Marika's pages - there's so much life and energy to Peggy and the rest of the cast, and the action scenes are stunning.
