Comics writer, novelist, and poet Tom Veitch passed away last week due to Covid, his brother Rick Veitch posted on Facebook. He was 80 years old.
We first became aware of Veitch’s work through his collaborations with Greg Irons on underground comix including Legion of Charlies, Deviant Slice, and stories for Skull and Slow Death. He also wrote stories illustrated by Richard Corben, Jack Jaxon and his brother Rick Veitch.
Veitch and Cam Kennedy were chosen to write new Star Wars stories by George Lucas after he saw their collaboration on the Epic Comics series The Light and Darkness War. He wrote Star Wars arcs Dark Empire, Dark Empire II, and Empire’s End for Dark Horse Comics.
Other mainstream comic work included The Nazz with Bryan Talbot, Clash with Adam Kubert, My Name Is Chaos with John Ridgway, and Animal Man (all from DC Comics).
Our sympathies to his family, including his wife, daughter, two grandsons, sister, and four brothers. A GoFundMe has been started to help his widow.
