SDCC News:  Dynamite Entertainment will publish comics tied to the Disney Animation TV series Gargoyles, the company announced.  The animated series ran for three seasons from 1994 to 1997.  The deal includes both new stories and reprints of comics originally released by Marvel, which now command premium prices.

Greg Weisman, one of the show’s creators, will write and shepherd new stories for Dynamite, which will be released as periodical comics and graphic novels.

Marvel published 11 issues of a Gargoyles comic in 1995, with work by creators Amanda Conner, Joe Madureira, Jimmy Palmiotti, Martin Pasko, Grant Miehm, and Mort Todd.  Diamond will publish the material from key Marvel issues as facsimile comics, and collect the whole run in paperback volumes.

A sequel Gargoyles series, written by Weisman with art by David Hedgecock, was published by Slave Labor Graphics under its Amaze Ink imprint in the 00s; Dynamite did not announce that it had rights to that material.

This is the second Dynamite license from Disney; it also announced that it will release Darkwing Duck comics (see “Dynamite Nabs ‘Darkwing Duck’”).
