Ron Forman, one of two partners (with Walter Wang) in comics direct distributor Comics Unlimited, passed away on December 8 after a battle with cancer, his family announced on Facebook. Comics Unlimited was a Staten Island-based distributor through a formative period in the comics direct market in the late 70s and through the 80s and early 90s, selling out to Diamond Comic Distributors in the distribution turmoil created by Marvel in 1994. Forman was an advocate for comic stores and comics fandom.
Forman was also a mathematics professor at Brooklyn College, and at Kingsborough Community College from 1969 on, and a radio broadcaster on college station WKRB from 1999 until his death.
His funeral will be at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel in Manhattan on Sunday, December 11. Our sympathies to his family and friends.
