Writer Steve Orlando is returning to the world of 2099 with a new five-issue series, Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis, that will build on previous storylines and bring in new characters, including Blade 2099. Spider-Punk artist Justin Mason will be the artist for the series, which will launch on May 3 from Marvel Comics, with a new issue coming out every week. Nick Bradshaw is the cover artist for all five issues.

The new installment of the series will flow directly from the events of Spider-Man 2099: Exodus, with a new Carnage threatening the city of Nueva York and Spider-Man 2099 (a.k.a. Miguel O'Hara), assembling a superhero team that will include the 2099 versions of Daredevil and Punisher, as well as Blade, to fight back.

“It's great to be back to 2099—and not just build on Exodus but also the past three incredible decades of pioneering, innovative cyberpunk work done in the world of 2099,” Orlando said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “When we last saw Spider-Man 2099, he was decimating the black card elite and upending social order to help the neighborhood. Help everyday people. But even he didn't expect how his actions would spark an outburst of vengeance and blood—with a monster at its head.”

In addition to his work on Spider-Punk, Mason drew a variant cover for GodSlap #2 (see “New Publisher Kicks Off with Comic by YouTube, Twitch Star”).
