ComicsPRO News: BOOM! Studios announced expanded support programs for retailers at the ComicsPro Annual Meeting, including returnability on more titles, the beginning of its new freight subsidy, and a new monthly meeting with retailers.
BOOM!’s limited returnability program, which it calls the BOOM! Guarantee program, was launched at ComicsPro back in 2017 (see "BOOM! Offers Retailers ‘Guarantee’") on a handful of titles. It has since been expanded, and at the 2023 ComicsPro Meeting, BOOM! announced that affidavit returnability will now be offered on either the A cover or on all covers, depending on the title. Returnability will also apply to more book-format product in 2023.
BOOM! is emphasizing its commitment to Diamond Comic Distributors by offering retailers who may be comparing Diamond’s freight charges to free freight offered on other publishers by Penguin Random House Publisher Services a rebate of 2% to offset freight charges on BOOM! products. The rebates will apply to all BOOM! products ordered through Diamond beginning March 1.
BOOM! is also launching a monthly virtual Zoom meeting for retailers, "The Pitch with BOOM!," which will bring together BOOM! team members, retailers, and occasional guests to discuss ways to sell more BOOM! product, including elevator pitches to use to hand-sell in stores. Recordings of each session will be available on Diamond’s Retailer Services Marketing Tools portal.
