The Image series Local Man, by Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs, debuted in February and isn’t quite through its first five-issue run yet, but the publisher has already announced an intriguing new one-shot. Local Man: Gold is a standalone story that will incorporate characters from other Image series, including Cyberforce, Street Angel, Boof and the Bruise Crew, and Love Everlasting.

An alt-superhero story set in a darkly imagined rural Midwest, Local Man follows a superhero, Jack Xaver a.k.a. Crossjack, who retreats to his family home after being accused of a murder. Local Man: Gold adds time travel to the mix, as Crossjack’s younger self arrives in the present and starts causing trouble. The comic will be released on August 30, 2023, with two covers, both by Seeley and Fleecs.

“We're tackling a lot of '90s comics motifs in Local Man and one of my favorite things about the early Image books were the crossovers,” Fleecs said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “From little things like Youngblood showing up in WildC.A.T.S. or Badrock and Company where in every issue Badrock hung out with somebody from a different Image founders' books to giant mega-events like Deathmate. We wanted to try and take one of those crossovers and make it super personal. That's what Local Man: Gold is."
