In this game, players venture into the den of a deadly alien Ambull. They can choose from ten different characters to play, each of which is equipped with unique skills and talents. The goal of the game, like other Combat Arena games (see "Skirmish Games"), is for each player to fight their way to victory against the main enemy and other players. The game comes with 13 miniatures, their stat cards, a game board, cards, tokens, and dice.

Lair of the Beast is for two to four players, ages 12 and up, and plays in 20 or more minutes.
