Titan Comics will publish a new series tying in to the Forgotten Runes Wizard’s Cult online fantasy franchise, which currently has over 2 million impressions per month and will soon include a blockchain-based MMORPG as well as an animated series that is being developed by Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick. The Web3 community launched in 2021 and claims to have generated over $100 million in revenue since then.
Forgotten Runes: Wizard’s Cult, by writer Joe Rechtman and artist Reilly Brown, will be a 10-issue series that starts as stories about different wizards in different situations, including trying to steal a treasure chest, fending off accusations of kidnapping, and suspecting their master has been replaced with an impostor. Eventually the stories merge into a larger narrative with a wider scope and higher stakes. The first issue will be released on November 22, 2023, with covers A and B by Brown and cover C by Ivan Tao, and the print edition will include an in-game code worth $20 and redeemable within the upcoming Forgotten Runiverse MMORPG.
Forgotten Runes is a Web3 fantasy franchise that includes animation, the video game, and comics, all based on a set of customizable NFT characters that are playable characters in the game. The company has produced a prequel comic, Forgotten Runes: Wizard’s Cult #0, and they have printed 200,000 copies as well as putting it online for free.
Brown was the artist for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point (see “DC Comics and Epic Games Team Up for ‘Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point’”).
