Abrams ComicArts will release a Special Election Edition of Uncle Sam, written by Steve Darnall with art by Alex Ross, which was originally published as a two-issue prestige format series released by DC Comics under its Vertigo imprint in 1997. The new edition is being published in collaboration with DC.
In addition to the original comic material, which has been out of print for nearly a decade, Uncle Sam: Special Election Edition will also include a new cover and afterword by Ross and a new afterword and expanded illustrated essay by Darnall on the history and iconography of Uncle Sam. The story follows a star-spangled vagrant named Sam with voices in his head and fractured memories, whose visions travel America’s dark past as he tries to remember his true identity and piece together his own experiences.
The 128-page hardcover, due out August 6 in the run-up to the election, will carry an MSRP of $25.99.
