Drawn & Quarterly’s Winter 2025 catalog includes the much-anticipated classic manga The Legend of Kamui, Michael DeForge’s newest graphic novel, and new work from England, Spain, and Australia.
Shirato Sanpei’s samurai manga The Legend of Kamui (see “D&Q to Publish ‘Legend of Kamuy’”) debuted in the first issue of the legendary outsider manga magazine Garo and ran from 1964 to 1971. The multilayered saga wraps issues of social justice and environmental destruction into the story of an outcast child who becomes a ninja in 17th-century Japan. The ten-volume series, which has never been published in English before, is being translated by scholar Richard Rubinger. The first volume, a 600-page paperback, will be released on January 14, 2024, with an MSRP of $39.95. Holy Lacrimony, by Michael DeForge, follows the story of Jacky, a famous guitarist who is abducted by aliens who have determined that he is the saddest person on earth and therefore worthy of scientific study. After spending some time displaying his sadness for the aliens, Jacky returns to earth and joins a support group to help him process all that has happened. The story is told in DeForge’s abstract, organic style. The 120-page, full color hardcover will be published on February 25, 2025, with an MSRP of $24.95. Milk White Steed, by Michael D. Kennedy, is a collection of ten short stories about West Indian immigrants finding their way in England, filled with dreamlike allusions to folk tales and rendered in a black and white style reminiscent of woodcuts. Drawn & Quarterly will publish the 245-page, full color paperback in April 2025 with an MSRP of $24.95. There’s No Time Like the Present, by Paul B. Rainey, looks at the effect that time travel has on a small group of friends who use it in surprisingly mundane ways; one despairs at the knowledge that she will still be working at the same job when she is 65; another uses the opportunity to read all future issues of his favorite comic. The 324-page, black and white paperback is slated for March 2025 release with an MSRP of $24.95. D&Q will also release Rainey’s 2023 graphic novel Why Don’t You Love Me? in a new paperback edition in March with an MSRP of $22.95. I Ate the Whole World to Find You, by Rachel Ang, examines the inner world of a woman on the cusp of turning 30 who is processing trauma and dealing with the world and the people who surround her. The story is set in Ang’s native Australia. The 312-page, black and white paperback will be released in April 2025 with an MSRP of $22.95. Land of Mirrors, by Spanish creator María Medem, is a fantasy tale, told in an evocative, flat, colorful style, about a woman who lives alone in a deserted village until the appearance of a flower and then a stranger lead her to a journey through the land of mirrors, during which she slowly opens up to the greater world around her. The 336-page, full-color paperback will be published in February 2025 with an MSRP of $34.95.In Drawn & Quarterly's Winter 2025 Catalog
