Hasbro is opening two locations with different concepts in New Jersey: The Game Room Powered by Hasbro and Planet Playskool.
The Game Room Powered by Hasbro, at the American Dream Mall in East Ruthorford, will include 41,500 square feet of arcade games, attractions, retail, and dining, according to Chain Store Age. None of the reports in trade or local New Jersey press indicate the nature of the retail portion of the store; attractions and games will include the G.I. Battle Station, nine lanes of Ultimate Roller Games, and arcade games featuring Hasbro properties. The store will open June 26.
Planet Playskool, at Garden State Plaza in Paramus, is a 20,000-square foot venue featuring play activites for children tied to Hasbro brands, according to NorthJersey.com. Brands featured at Planet Playskool include Mouse Trap, Play-Doh, Tinkertoy, and Transformers. The location opened on June 13.
Hasbro operated stores for a time through its Wizards of the Coast subsidiary, which operated as many as 100 Wizards of the Coast and Game Keeper stores in the late 90s and early 00s. Wizards of the Coast closed its last stores in a liquidation in early 2004 (see "WotC Ankles Retail").
