Ahead of the Lucasfilm panel at Comic-Con, Marvel announced it will publish three limited series telling the story of the Battle of Jakku, which occurred between Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. First up is Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising, by writer Alex Segura and artists Leonard Kirk, Stefano Raffaele, and Jethro Morales. The four-issue miniseries will launch on October 2, 2024, and will be published on a biweekly schedule with covers by Phil Noto. No details have been announced on the other two series.

“Our story will be epic in scope - involving all the major characters you love, plus some new, exciting additions to the mythos," Segura said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "We'll not only give readers a front-row seat to the final battle of the Galactic Civil War - we'll reframe the aftermath of the Battle of Endor and introduce a new, menacing threat that will keep our heroes guessing. The goal for all of us is to turn up the volume and make sure this adventure stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the other stories of the era. As the Empire collapses, a new darkness arises!"

Marvel announced in June that it would wrap up two long-running Star Wars series (see "Marvel to Close Out Two Star Wars Series") and launch new series set in a different era. On July they revealed the first of the new series, Star Wars: Ewoks (see "The Ewoks Are Back"), which is also set after Return of the Jedi.
