Tokyopop has announced it will publish the one-volume manga A Smart and Courageous Child, by Miki Yamamoto. The story, set in 2012, follows a young couple who are expecting their first child but are horrified when the Taliban attempts to assassinate peace activist Malala Yousafzai just a few days before their baby is due. The couple are shocked at the violence against a courageous and innocent child, and they begin to worry about their own child’s future, a concern that begins to drive them apart. The manga, which is rated for ages 13 and up, won the Manga Division Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2020. Tokyopop will publish the 176-page paperback on November 20, 2024, with an MSRP of $16.99.
