Jeffrey Brown, creator of Batman and Robin and Howard, Vader’s Little Princess, and numerous other all-ages takes on superheroes and Star Wars, is heading to the Marvel universe with Hulk Teach!, to be published by Scholastic in August 2025. After one too many meltdowns, Bruce Banner is sent to do community service by teaching middle school for a year, presenting a series of challenges for both him and his students. It’s not clear whether the book is a true graphic novel or a Diary of a Wimpy Kid-style hybrid, as the story will be told through journal entries, newspaper clippings, and spot illustrations as well as two-color artwork. The 160-page paperback, rated for ages 8-12, will be available as a paperback with an MSRP of $12.99 and a hardcover with an MSRP of $22.99.
In an interview on the Marvel Comics website, Brown said the book was inspired by his own experiences making author visits to schools. “I was watching teachers navigate their days with more patience than I have and realized it would be really funny to see Bruce Banner try to teach middle school without getting frustrated and turning into the Hulk,” he said.
NBM will publish Brown’s slice-of-life comic Kids Are Still Weird in October (see “Jeffrey Brown on Parenting”).
