Themeborne will release The Last of Us: Escape the Dark, a new board game based on the video game franchise utilizing the Escape the Dark game system. Gameplay, for 1 to 5 players, follows characters from the video game as they journey from a Quarantine Zone to Jackson, using crafting and weapon upgrades via dice and item cards to avoid challenges. Like Escape the Dark, The Last of Us features large, narrative-rich chapter cards with complex scenarios.
The post-apocalyptic universe of the Naughty Dog The Last of Us video game was the basis for an Max series; the first season in 2023 averaged 32 million viewers per episode across all platforms; the second season is slated for 2025.
The Themeborne game was funded at $1.12 million (converted from British pounds at today's exchange rate) from 9,701 backers on Kickstarter in December 2022. The trade release through Asmodee in the U.S. is planned for November 29.
The game box includes a game board, 6 Player Boards, 154 cards, 68 dice, 94 tokens, and rule book. It's for 1-5 players 14 and up, and plays in 90 minutes. MSRP is $74.95.
