Mark Waid will write New History of the DC Universe, a four-issue miniseries with artists Jerry Ordway and Todd Nauck on the first issue, for launch in June. The history will be told through the eyes of Barry Allen, the Flash. The first issue will cover the birth of the DC Universe through the rise of the Justice Society and the Golden Age of heroes.
Waid described his plans for the project. " It’s a chance to realign all of DC Comics' sprawling continuity into one master timeline, and to be joined by some of comics’ greatest artists to make it shine," he said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "With new information for even longtime fans, plus Easter eggs galore, this series will be an essential read for DC fans."
The cover program includes a Chris Samnee main cover; variant covers by Dan Mora, Ryan Sook, and Mike Cho; foil variants by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau and Sook (his is a wraparound foil variant); and a series of connecting wraparound covers depicting DC’s iconic characters chronologically with each issue by Scott Koblish.
The original History of the DC Universe, written by Marv Wolfman with art by George Perez and Karl Kesel, was a two-issue series released in 1986. Collections have appeared a couple of times in the decades since, most recently in 2023. DC released The Other History of the DC Universe, written by John Ridley, in 2020 (see “Other History”).
Street date for New History of the DC Universe is June 25.
