Writer Matt Kindt and artist David Rubín, who collaborated on the sci-fi/fantasy series Ether, are back together again with Space Scouts, a new series to be published by Dark Horse Comics under its Flux House imprint.  The story of teenagers who travel to the center of the universe to compete in a reality show only to find themselves thrust into a much larger battle, Space Scouts will be published in three magazine-size (8" x 10.875") issues, each with 32 pages of story plus bonus content, priced at $7.99.  The first issue will be released on November 5, 2025, and each issue will have a variant cover by a different artist: Sergio Aragonés for #1, Brian Hurtt for #2, and Alvaro Martinez Bueno for #3.

"Space Scouts is a dream project that David and I have had for a long time – getting to tell a story that centers around thousands of teenage super-heroes recruited to save the universe," Kindt said in a statement accompanying the announcement.  "It gives us a chance to let our creativity run wild – with different super powers and aliens all tied to a competition/reality show.  As a long-time fan of the crazy 1950s Superboy comic book covers – this scratches that inspirational itch."

Kindt and Rubín’s Ether was published by Dark Horse in 2016 and the sequel Ether: The Copper Golem in 2018 (see "Magic and Science Meet Again in ‘Ether: The Copper Golem’").  Kindt was nominated for the Eisner Award for Best Writer, and Rubín for Best Penciller/Inker and Best Coloring, based in part on their work on Ether (see "The 2018 Eisner Award Nominees").
