Wizards of the Coast has announced plans to launch a new TCG, Hecatomb, at Gencon this August.  The new trading card game, which was demoed for retailers at the GAMA Trade Show this week, will be played with five-sided cards packaged in starters and boosters.

The Hecatomb Starter Game, MSRP $12.99, will include two 20-card decks, a rule book, and counters, and will come packed eight per display.

Hecatomb Boosters will be roughly square in shape, will contain 13 cards for $4.99, and will come packed in 24-count displays.  A full set will consist of 144 cards.

The new game is viewed as a core product, which means it will be distributed in the channels where Magic is sold -- hobby, book, and software stores.  WotC will provide organized play support.

WotC will label Hecatomb for ages 15 and up due to its dark themes (the object of the game is to destroy the world) and depictions of violence.  Depictions of Norse, Egyption, and Lovecraftian deities will be included; no deities of active religions will be used.

The first expansion for the new game, also a 144-card set, will be released October 28th.
