Anchor Bay Entertainment is releasing Astro Boy: The Complete Box Set, which collects all 52 episodes of the 1980s full color Astro Boy series, on November 22nd. The series, which many fans consider to be the best anime version of Osamu Tezuka's great creation (finances did not allow him to make the original 1960s Astro Boy series in color), will be released on eight disks and have a very reasonable suggested retail price of $39.98. Viewers will have the choice of the original Japanese soundtrack (with optional English subtitles) or an English-dubbed soundtrack.
Extras include the first episode of the 1960s series, deleted scenes, a restoration comparison, storyboards of the opening sequence, character profiles, original character art gallery, and a cover gallery of the original Astro Boy manga covers.
Fans of Tezuka's classic anime series are in for a treat. In addition to Anchor Bay's release of the 1980s Astro Boy, The Right Stuf is releasing Tezuka's Kimba the White Lion (aka The Jungle Emperor) in November (see 'The Right Stuf to Release Kimba') and the original 1960s Astro Boy series in 2006.
