National Lampoon, Inc. has formed a book publishing division, National Lampoon Press, which expects to publish 10-12 titles a year.  Holtzbrinck Publishers, a group that includes Farrar Straus and Giroux, Henry Holt, St. Martin's Press, Tor Books, and Roaring Brook Press, will distribute the National Lampoon Press books worldwide (Holtzbrinck's Roaring Brook Press recently announced an ambitious slate of graphic novels under its First Second Books imprint, see 'New Graphic Novel Publisher Debuts This Spring').

Content for the National Lampoon Press books will come from material previously published in the old National Lampoon Magazine, which ceased publication in 1997, as well as from articles posted on the National Lampoon Website and prepared for the National Lampoon college TV network.  Plans call for the release of the first six titles in the fall of 2006, a list that includes: National Lampoon The Saddam Dump: Saddam Hussein's Trial Blog, National Lampoon's Not Fit For Print: Tasteless Jokes, Cartoons and Essays We Probably Should Have Kept to Ourselves, National Lampoon Jokes Jokes Jokes, National Lampoon Favorite Cartoons of the Twenty-First Century, and National Lampoon Magazine Rack (a compilation of parodies of some of today's most popular magazines).

Some of the previous volumes published by The National Lampoon (this is the company's first publishing venture since 1997) have had a strong appeal to the college age demographic and have sold over 200,000 copies.
