Topps has announced that it will release Star Wars Evolution: Update Edition trading cards in early July. Like the first Star Wars Evolution set in 2001 (see 'Star Wars Evolution Cards from Topps') and the recently released Lord of the Rings Evolution set (see 'Lord of the Rings: Evolution'), the new set from Topps will contain characters from across multiple movies.
For the first time, this 90-card set will include characters from all six Star Wars films, along small creature and ship/vehicle subsets. And both Hobby and Retail versions will have rare Evolution A and even rarer Evolution B inserts, with characters in alternate costumes and looks.
The Hobby version will include autograph cards of the stars, with James Earl Jones and Hayden Christensen signatures already in house; Etched Foil cards, with art by Jan Duursema and Dan Parsons, that fit together to form a six-card puzzle; and a super-rare Evolution Set C, extremely limited, sequentially numbered cards with alternate looks for Luke and Leia. The Hobby version will also include three 1/1 cut signature cards, with signatures of the late Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing, and George Lucas.
The Retail version will include stained glass cards, printed on clear textured plastic.
MSRP will be $1.99 per pack, with six cards in each.
Both the original Star Wars Evolution set and February's LOTR Evolution set sold well. Topps VP Ira Friedman said, 'Lord of the Rings Evolution was a huge hit with hobby retailers. We're still getting calls for more.'
