Disney has a lot riding on the success of these Star Wars “side stories,” which are cheaper to produce than primary canonical entries like The Force Awakens, and the studio appears to be making an extra effort to make the first Star Wars Anthology film a success by ordering extensive reshoots (see “Disney Orders Reshoots for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”). But is this an attempt to make another great Star Wars movie, or to salvage a project gone wrong? The answer won’t come until December, though Disney has released some interesting behind-the-scenes material (as well as more images and character details—see “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Celebration Video” and “First Images From Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”). Marvel Comics will be publishing Rogue One prequel comics (see “Marvel Plans Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Prequels”).
The Rebellion Is On

The first TV spot for the first Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story focuses on Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), a young rebel tasked with stealing the plans for the Death Star in Gareth Edwards’ film that debuts on December 16. The spot contains little or no footage that hasn’t been seen before (most of it was in the first trailer—see ‘First Rogue One Trailer”), but there are some nice shots of Imperial cruisers, the Death Star, and some “Walkers” in action.
