Marvel Comics revealed secrets and a preview for its upcoming Defenders series in a press call with writer Brian Michael Bendis, artist David Marquez, and SVP, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort.
The ongoing series, which brings Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron Fist together, will have far-reaching consequences, Bendis confirmed. "The (antagonist) character’s introduction, and what they do as their first act, will be damaging to each Defender and that will absolutely pour into their books. It’s a game-changer for everyone involved." Effects will be felt in Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and likely, Daredevil.
Bendis also teased that other members of the Marvel Universe will be making appearances, including Punisher, Doctor Strange, Night Nurse, "various Spider-people" and even some mutants.
The villain will be revealed in the FCBD Defenders story which appears in the Guardians of the Galaxy comic available this Saturday. Then the action picks up in Defenders #1, releasing on June 14 (see "Brian Michael Bendis Takes 'The Defenders' to the Streets").
The Netflix adaptation, Marvel’s The Defenders, will launch on August 18 (see "'Marvel's The Defenders' Teaser Reveals Premiere Date").
