January looks to be infested with daemons when Games Workshop releases new sourcebooks for Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer:  Age of Sigmar.  The Codex:  Chaos Daemons and Chaos Battletome:  Maggotkin of Nurgle are both now available for pre-order.

Codex:  Chaos Daemons includes all of the rules needed to field entities from the Warp in the current edition if Warhammer 40,000, as well as background and “fluff” about these reality-warping entities.  The Chaos Gods and their legions are described, including their current efforts to corrupt reality, alongside 50 datasheets covering every currently available Chaos Daemon miniature, army abilities, wargear, stratagems, warlord traits, artifacts, and psychic powers.  Photos of painted Citadel miniatures round out the 144-page hardcover book.

MSRP for Codex:  Chaos Daemons is $40.00.  A deck of Datacards:  Chaos Daemons is also available, with cards explaining the psychic powers, stratagems, and tactical objectives, with an MSRP of $15.00.  A combo pack, the Chaos Daemons Gaming Collection, which includes the Codex and the Datacards, is on offer for $55.00.

Last month, two of the Space Marine Chapters were bolstered by focused Codex books (see “‘Blood Angels,’ ‘Dark Angels’ Join ‘Warhammer 40,000’”).

On the fantasy end of the spectrum, the Chaos Battletome:  Maggotkin of Nurgle focuses on the odious Chaos God of Plagues and his pestilent followers in the Mortal Realms.  This 104-page hardcover book describes Grandfather Nurgle and his “Garden” in the Realm of Chaos, Nurgle daemons great and small, and the warbands that serve them.  Included in the book are 24 Warscrolls, Allegiance Abilities, command traits, artifacts, spells, and a battleplan for use with Maggotkin armies, as well as photos of painted miniatures.

The Chaos Battletome:  Maggotkin of Nurgle is MSRP $40.00.  It is supported by the Warscroll Cards:  Maggotkin of Nurgle deck, which features 25 large format cards and a set of double-sided cardboard gaming tokens, at MSRP $25.00.  A $65.00 MSRP Maggotkin of Nurgle Essentials set includes both the book and the card set.

Nurgle and his followers have been a major focus in Age of Sigmar since the release of Blightwar late last year (see “‘Blightwar’ Comes to ‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar’”).
