The Mars Attacks trading card series debuted in 1962, drawing inspiration from the horror and science fiction comics that dominated the 1950s. Wally Wood and Norman Saudners were among the artists who contributed work to the popular card series. Outcries over violence, gore, and sexual content led to the end of the card series, but the property has remained resilient. Topps has reissued reprints and new cards, it inspired a 1996 Tim Burton-directed movie starring a ridiculously stacked cast, and remains a mainstay in a variety of games (see “'Mars Attacks' Game Tops $558k,” “'Mars Attacks' Martians Invade RPGs”). At one point in time, IDW Publishing published comics based on the property (see “'Dark Jem,' 'Mars Attacks' Returns, 'Best Of Dc War,' More”). Writer John Layman (Chew) and artist Joe Eisma (Big Trouble in Little China, Faith) will be bringing Charlie’s Angels back to comics. The series will find Jill Kelly, and Sabrina trotting the globe with all the 1970s flair of the popular TV show. Charlie’s Angels #1 will be in stores in June and feature several variant covers by Eisma, David Finch and Jimmy Reyes, and others. Dynamite acquired the rights to Charlie’s Angels in late 2017 (see "'Charlie's Angels' Reunite"). On the eve of Vampirella’s 50th anniversary, Dynamite has announced a new series from writer Kristina Deak-Linsner and artist Joseph Michael Linsner (Dawn). Vampirella: Roses for the Dead will launch in 2019 alongside a commemorative 50th anniversary wall calendar. The comic series will see the return of Evily, Vampirella’s magic-practicing cousin, and will have two variant covers from Linsner and Billy Tucci (Shi, Heores for Hire).
