Kirks do not take kindly to pay cuts, at least those portrayed by A-list movie stars named Chris. The Hollywood Reporter shared news that both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth have refused to bow to Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media’s budget requests for Star Trek 4. Other franchise castmates – Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, and John Cho – don’t have the comic book blockbuster movie leading man cred that Thor (Hemsworth) and Steve Trevor (Pine) command, so they were waiting on the stars’ deals to be locked before they negotiated. But now, with Captain Kirk, and his father (George Samuel Kirk – played by Hemsworth in the prologue of the 2009 film) are demanding the studios stick to existing deals, and not renege on them, despite the fact that Star Trek: Beyond underperformed at the box office (see “'Bourne' Regains Identity as Box Office Champ”). Paramount and Skydance insiders say the movie, which will be the first theatrical franchise film directed by a female – S.J. Clarkson, is not being put on hold.
The voice cast for Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie is coming together. Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic, according to Variety. Adam Pally and Neal McDonough will also have roles in the film, Collider is reporting. Jim Carrey will play Doctor Eggman Robotnik (see “Jim Carrey in Talks for 'Sonic the Hedgehog,' 'Bloodshot' Casting, Sony Has 'Faith,' First Look at Cheetah, 'Animosity' and 'Crowded' Optioned”).The movie will be a blend of live-action and CGI elements.
Guy Pearce (Memento, Prometheus) is in talks to replace Michael Sheen in Bloodshot, after Sheen was forced to leave due to scheduling conflicts, Variety reported. Pearce would play Dr. Emil Harting, the genius who develops the nanotechnology that resurrects Bloodshot, who is played by Vin Diesel. Lamorne Morris (The New Girl) is also joining the cast, Deadline is reporting, as Wilfred Wigans, a young scientist who comes an unlikely ally of Bloodshot. According to Deadline’s source, Morris is attached for another two pictures if the franchise continues.
Nick Fury and Maria Hill will be appearing in Spider-Man: Far From Home, played by Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders respectively. Though they were both last seen evaporating in Avengers: Infinity War, Vulture is reporting they will be making an appearance in the Sony Pictures Spider-Man sequel. The film opens in theaters on July 5, 2019.
