Rooster Teeth is partnering with DC Comics on a comic book slate that kicks off with a series based on the globally popular RWBY animated series. The deal also includes comics based on the upcoming animated series gen:LOCK. Both series will be available in 2019. Both DC and Rooster Teeth are part of of WarnerMedia (see “Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth Now Part of WarnerMedia”).

RWBY is an American anime-style web series that centers on Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long, three Huntresses training to protect the last of humanity from horrific monsters. The series debuted in 2013 and is about to kick off its sixth volume on October 27. VIZ Media holds the American license for Japanese manga inspired by RWBY (see “VIZ Announces New Manga Licenses”). The first volume debuted stateside in January, garnering the top spot on the manga charts (see “January 2018 NPD Bookscan - Top 20 Manga”) and the #2 spot on the adult graphic novels chart (see “January 2018 NPD Bookscan - Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels”). The property has also inspired other merchandise, including games (see “'RWBY: Combat Ready' and 'Goodcritters'”).

Rooster Teeth’s gen:LOCK is another anime-inspired series, this one centered on mecha and a diverse team of pilots for the giant robots. The series is supposed to launch on January 26, 2019, and includes Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther), Dakota Fanning (The Alienist), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Asia Kate Dillon (Billions), and David Tennant (Doctor Who) among the voice talent.
