Teaser images and posters have been around for months (see “Meet All the Spideys in 'Into the Spider-Verse,' Hellboy's Legendary Poster, Another 'Monster Hunter,' More”), but this is the first time Hellboy speaks, or rather -whines like a teenager, on camera. Which is technically true to the character, though it lacks Ron Perlman’s gravitas. It’s interesting to see Ian McShane playing a (non-malevolent) father figure, but the promise of a more “horror-themed” storyline closer to the source material than the previous films gets lost in the slapstick of the Billy Idol “Mony Mony” soundtrack.
Hellboy Day will happen in comic shops on March 23 (see “Consecrate 25 Years of Hellboy with Themed Events”). The movie opens in theaters on April 12.
