Dark Horse Comics is preparing some new editions of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s popular Umbrella Academy series, which has been enjoying a resurgence on the bestseller charts thanks to the recent Netflix series adaptation (see “April 2019 NPD BookScan - Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels”).

The long-awaited third miniseries, The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion, was finally launched in October 2018 (see “Preview: The Umbrella Academy Are Livin' It Up at 'Hotel Oblivion'”) and the final issue will hit comic stores on June 5. The seven-issue series will be collected in a trade paperback, Umbrella Academy Vol. 3: Hotel Oblivion on September 18. The 108-page trade paperback has an MSRP of $19.99.

Also releasing in September is the first of two Library Editions on the earlier series. The Umbrella Academy Library Edition Vol. 1: Apocalypse Suite is a deluxe oversized hardcover collection of the first series, Apocalypse Suite, as well as the short stories Mon Dieu! and But the Past Ain’t Through with You. It also includes a 50-page sketchbook section with work by Way, Ba, James Jean and designer Tony Ong. The 218-page hardcover will release on September 24. MSRP is $39.99.

In November, The Umbrella Academy Library Edition Vol. 2: Dallas will arrive. The deluxe oversized hardcover will collect the second six-issue series, Dallas, as well as the short story Anywhere but Here. There is also a 36-page sketchbook with work by Way, Ba, designer Tony Ong, and Jim Lee. The 216-page hardcover will release on November 26. MSRP is $39.99.

The Netflix adaptation was renewed for a second season in April, and Dark Horse signed a first look deal with the OTT platform earlier this month (see “Dark Horse Signs 'First Look' Deal with Netflix”). According to Netflix, Umbrella Academy is the platform’s most watched show of 2019, drawing over 45 million viewers in the first month (see “'Swamp Thing' Teaser, Season Shortened; 'Umbrella Academy,' 'Game of Thrones' Ratings“). Comic stores have been hard-pressed lately to keep up with renewed interest in the source material (see 'Umbrella Academy' TPB Reprints Hitting Warehouses Week After Next”).
