DC has named Daniel Cherry III, previously Chief Marketing Officer at Activision Blizzard Esports, as Senior Vice President and General Manager, according to Hollywood Reporter.  The description of his new role in the THR report lists “business affairs editorial, talent services, marketing, sales, brand and direct to consumer.” Cherry and SVP Business Strategy, Finance, and Administration Anne DePies will oversee business development.

Those functions combine a role previously played by VP Marketing and Creative Services Jonah Weiland, who’s departing as part of the staff cuts made in August (see “DC Implosion – Major Staff Cuts”), with some functions previously handled by former Co-Publisher Dan DiDio, who departed in February (see “Dan DiDio Out at DC”), and others into a new senior position that will be paired with CCO Jim Lee's.

Cherry has had a string of senior marketing positions leading up to Activision Blizzard Esports, including Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer at the Prudential Center & New Jersey Devils, SVP Marketing North America at beer and spirits company Diageo, and CMO for the New York Cosmos, as well as work at a variety of agencies, including Wieden + Kennedy.

The hiring of Cherry is part of a major restructuring at DC, which in addition to staff cuts and a major reduction in the company’s line (see “Jim Lee: Bottom 20-25% of the DC Line Was Losing Money”) has now remade the company under President, Warner Bros. Global Brands and Experiences Pam Lifford, who took over two years ago (see “Pam Lifford New DC Boss”).
