Ultra PRO Entertainment has announced two updated games set in the iconic world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, entitled The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, releasing in July, and The Lord of the Rings: Journey to Mordor.

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth is a card game, originally released by Playroom Games, in which players create “fellowships” of characters from the book series such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, and others, then send them out to confront the evil armies of Mordor.  As fellowships are created, the ever-watchful Eye of Sauron spies for an opportunity to counterattack.

Designed by Andreas Zimmermann (Tintenblut, Lilly the Witch) for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, The Battle for Middle-earth includes 68 cards and a game board.  Games take about 30 minutes to play.  MSRP is $15.00.

The company is also offering The Lord of the Rings:  Journey to Mordor, a dice game in which players try to guide Frodo Baggins and his companions to Mount Doom so they can destroy the One Ring.  Along the way they can seek support from Gandalf and other heroes, while evading orcs and Ringwraiths. The English version of The Lord of the RingsJourney to Mordor was originally released into the U.S. by Fantasy Flight Games in 2016 (see "'LotR: Journey to Mordor'").

This game comes with 5 custom dice and a notepad. It was created by Michael Rieneck (The Pillars of the Earth, Cuba) for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, and takes about half an hour to play.  MSRP is $12.00.

Ultra Pro has also announced summer releases for its Ascension deckbuilding game line (see “Ultra Pro Reveals a Summer Full of ‘Ascension’ Releases”).
