It was a big week for geek showbiz news, and we round it up here (and for more, see "Disney+ Day Marvel Announcements").
Marvel’s Eternals won its second weekend at the box office and passed $118 million in domestic box office receipts, according to Variety. It opened with $71 million last weekend (see "’Eternals’ Does $71M"). Eternals has grossed $281.4 million worldwide. Venom: Let There Be Carnage passed $200 million at the domestic box office this weekend, only the second film to do so this year (along with Shang-Chi).
Dungeons & Dragons Presents: Invitation to Party, television’s first series devoted to tabletop gaming, will stream live weekly on YouTube and Twitch beginning Friday, November 19 at 3 PT and air weekly on the G4 cable channel on Monday, November 22 at 6:30 PT. The dungeon master is B. Dave Walters (D&D: A Darkened Wish, see "Walters and Fowler on ‘D&D’ Miniseries"); and the players are YouTube star Kassem Gharaibeh, on camera personality, actress, and content creator Fiona Nova, e-sports broadcaster Indiana Black, a/k/a Froskurinn, and actor and writer Ify Nwadiwe. Wizards of the Coast and G4 previously collaborated on a streaming special earlier this year (see "G4 and WotC Stream ‘D&D Live 2021’").
Star Trek: Prodigy, which debuted on Paramount+ on October 28 (see "Trailer for ‘ST: Prodigy"), has been greenlit for a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The first season will continue to drop new episodes until November 18, then pick up again for the second half of the season beginning January 6.
Paramount has delayed Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the next film in the Transformers franchise, to June 9, 2023, according to Deadline. Steven Caple Jr. directs and Ron Perlman is Optimus Primal. Paramount also changed its plans for the next Star Trek film, which is now planned for December 22, 2023 (see "Best in Shows – 2023"). Matt Shakman will direct.
Speaking of delays, Lucasfilm has pushed back production of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron from its planned 2022 start date due to a scheduling conflict for director Patty Jenkins, according to Variety. A writer for the film was announced in June (see "Writer for ‘Rogue Squadron’"). The currently scheduled release date is December 22, 2023, but that date is in jeopardy.
