It was a busy winter week in Hollywood, and it's time for a round-up!
New DC Studios Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran (see "'DC Studios' Gets Two Heads") are continuing to remap the DC slate. Patty Jenkins' sequel to Wonder Woman 1984 is no longer moving forward and development of Man of Steel 2 has ended, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile, Gunn declared on Twitter that he will "abide by no gorilla limits whatsoever" in future DC projects (see below). He also tweeted images of character art depicting Monsieur Mallah, Gorilla Grodd, Ultra-Humanite, and Titano along with the caption, "THEY ALL DESERVE TO LIVE."
Amazon Prime Video released a first look at The Boys' spinoff series Gen V (see below). This series is set to stream in 2023 (see "'The Boys'"), and stars Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, Marco Pigossi, Clancy Brown, Alexander Calvert and Jason Ritter.
Intrepid Pictures has acquired the rights to Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, according to Deadline, and plans to adapt the property for Amazon TV as a five-season series which will be followed by two standalone feature films. A decade ago, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment had plans to similarly adapt the series into films and TV, but were unable to secure financing (see"’Dark Tower’ Dead"). Sony released a single film based on the property in 2017 (see "’The Dark Tower’ Trailer"). In 2018, Simon & Schuster imprint Gallery 13 acquired the rights to the graphic novels based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower novels and re-released them (see "Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' Graphic Novels").
Sony Pictures Television has optioned The Destroyer, a 150-novel series starring a New Jersey police officer framed and sentenced to death before becoming an assassin for the government, for development, according to Deadline. Sony has tapped Better Call Saul's Gordon Smith to write and executive produce the series.
In a relatively minor move, Warners has moved up the release of The Flash movie from June 23, 2023 to June 16, 2023 (see "2023"), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
