IDW Publishing and Paramount Global have renewed their contract for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, ensuring that IDW’s top-selling property will stay with the publisher and continuing a relationship that began in 2011 (see “IDW Does Marvel, TMNT, Anne Rice”).

2024 is the 40th anniversary year for the franchise, which began with Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s self-published black-and-white comics in 1984.  Paramount, the parent company of Nickelodeon, acquired global IP rights to the TMNT in 2009 (see “Nick Buys TMNT”).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin was an immediate best-seller when it launched in 2020 (see “‘TMNT: The Last Ronin’ #1 Breaks 130,000 Copies on Preorder”) and the property continues to be a top seller (see “Top Superhero Graphic Novel Franchises – Spring 2023”).
