Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks dropped some important facts on current and upcoming Universes Beyond licensed sets for Magic: The Gathering in the company’s Q1 conference call today (for full Hasbro financial info, see "'Magic' Up"). 

He described sales on the recently released Magic: The Gathering - Universes Beyond Fallout set, which hit retail on March 8 (see "Deets for ‘Fallout’ Set"), as Wizards of the Coast’s "best-performing Commander set ever," although noting that Commander sets are smaller than their typical premier sets.

Cocks also looked ahead to the 2025 Universes Beyond sets, tied to Marvel and Final Fantasy, describing them as "…in the same league, at least, as what we saw with Lord of the Rings," which would put their sales in pretty elevated territory.  "Marvel is just a huge IP," he said, confirming that there will be multiple sets around Marvel properties (see "’Magic: The Gathering’ and Marvel Team Up").

He noted that their expectations for the Final Fantasy set were based in part on projections for sales in Japan, the second largest world market for Magic and for TCGs generally, where he said their "…sales in Japan will probably dwarf what we did with Lord of the Rings because of the resonance that it has in that market."
