Abrams ComicArts will publish book format products by comics auteur Frank Miller, from his eponymous company Frank Miller Presents (see “Frank Miller Launches Publishing Company”), the companies announced.
“Abrams’s unique distribution and outreach ensures that the work of our imprint will continue to connect with fans, no matter where they may be,” Miller said of the new publishing partnership.
Two October releases are planned as the first titles under this new publishing agreement: Ronin Rising and Pandora.
Ronin Rising is a new story in the world originally created by Miller in his 1983-84 DC series. It will be written by Miller, with art by Miller and Philip Tan, and inks by Daniel Henriques. There will be two ComicArts editions, released simultaneously. At the high end will be a deluxe Collector’s Edition, which in addition to the new story will feature a new foreword by Jim Lee and 49 pages of bonus material, including all the spreads from the original series, presented in full landscape format as Miller originally intended. This edition will feature a new cover by Miller.
ComicArts will also publish a manga-sized edition of Ronin Rising under its new manga imprint, which has now been named Kana. ComicArts announced that it would be adding manga to its catalog last spring as part of the expansion of its remit as a full division of Abrams (see “Abrams ComicArts Adds Manga”).
Pandora, Inspired by illustrated fairy tales Miller read with his mother growing up, will be co-written by Anthony Maranville and Chris Silvestri, with art by Emma Kubert (daughter of Andy Kubert and granddaughter of Joe Kubert). The story follows a girl who finds a relic with the power to warp reality and begins to use it to change the world around her, sowing the seeds of chaos.
Announcements of single-issue comic series and additional titles will come at a later time, the publishers said.
