One of the more talked about future events for Magic: The Gathering has been the upcoming crossover sets with the Marvel IP (see "’Magic: The Gathering’ and Marvel Team Up"). Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks had mentioned that there would be multiple sets revolving around the Marvel IP coming in 2025 (see "Cocks on 'Magic: The Gathering' 'Universes Beyond'"). However, it seems Magic fans will be getting a taste of what's to come a little early with a Secret Lair Superdrop at the end of 2024.
The Secret Lair x Marvel Superdrop features five sets, each revolving around a specific Marvel hero. For the first round of sets, WotC chose five of the most popular heroes the Marvel brand has to offer: Black Panther, Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, and Wolverine. Each of these Marvel characters are legendary creatures (so they can be used as a Commander) and have, thus far, unique mechanics to the game.
The sets available in this Superdrop are as follows:
- Secret Lair x Marvel's Black Panther (MSRP $39.99; Rainbow Foil $49.99): This set revolves around king T'Challa as Black Panther and comes with a Black Panther, Wakandan King; a Secure the Wastes; a Primal Vigor as "Bast's Blessing"; a Heroic Intervention; a Karn's Bastion as "Wakandan Skyscraper" and a Warrior token.
- Secret Lair x Marvel's Captain America (MSRP $39.99; Rainbow Foil $49.99): The Cap set offers fans a Captain America, First Avenger; a Sigarda's Aid as "Captain America's Aid"; a Flawless Maneuver; a In the Trenches and a Sword of War and Peace as "Shield of War and Peace."
- Secret Lair x Marvel's Iron Man (MSRP $39.99; Rainbow Foil $49.99): This Iron Man-themed set contains an Iron Man, Titan of Innovation; a Galvanic Blast; a Commander's Plate; a Sol Ring; an Inventors' Fair and a Treasure token.
- Secret Lair x Marvel's Storm (MSRP $39.99; Rainbow Foil $49.99): Storm's set features all of her elemental fury as Magic cards. It comes with a Storm, Force of Nature; a Lightning Bolt; a Jeska's Will as Storm's Will; an Ice Storm and a Manamorphose as "Ororo Borealis".
- Secret Lair x Marvel's Wolverine (MSRP $39.99; Rainbow Foil $49.99): Wolverine's set rages into Magic with an array of appropriately themed card. The set comes with a Wolverine, Best There Is; a Berserk; a Rite of Passage; a Rhythm of the Wild and a The Ozolith as "Adamantium Bonding Tank."
Additionally, for each $199 spent on the Marvel Superdrop, fans will get an Arcane Signet as "Earth's Mightiest Emblem."
