Despite the holiday, showbiz news kept rolling in, and we round it up here.

Lucasfilm announced the title and release date of a new Star Wars feature, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Shawn Levy (see "Gosling in ‘Star Wars’ Feature"), at Star Wars Celebration in Japan last week (see video below).  Star Wars: Starfighter will open Memorial Day weekend 2027.  This standalone film will be the second new Star Wars film, following The Mandalorian and Grogu in 2026 (see "Jeremy Allen White in Star Wars"), after a long break that began in 2019.

Lucasfilm Animation is producing Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, a new animated series, which will debut on Disney+ in 2026, the studio announced at Star Wars Celebration.  The new series will star Sam Witwer, reprising his role from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, as Maul as he rises again to lead the underworld factions.  The new series is set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars.

Lucasfilm has ordered a spin-off series tied to the Star Wars: Visions animation anthology series, the studio announced at Star Wars Celebration.  The new series, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, will follow Kara from Kenji Kamiyama’s The Ninth Jedi Star Wars: Visions short from the first volume.  Kamiyama will act as supervising director for the new series, which will consist of longer shorts.  The third volume of Star Wars: Visions, which will include a short featuring the character from another director, will drop October 29.

Marvel has released the official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with the four primary characters, H.E.R.B.I.E. the robot, and for the first time, Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer.  The looks of the core team were first seen in a teaser in February (see "’Fantastic Four’ Teaser"). The film will open July 25, 2025 (see "Best in Shows 2025").

Netflix has announced the drop date for the second and final season of The Sandman, along with a trailer (see below).  The Sandman Season 2 will drop in two volumes: Volume 1, with 6 episodes, will drop on July 3; Volume 2, with 5 episodes, will drop on July 24.  The series adapting Neil Gaiman’s Sandman was planned to end with two seasons before the accusations against him, which he denies (see "’The Sandman’ Ending").

Amazon MGM Studios will partner with Legendary on their new Pacific Rim series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Legendary is developing the series with Eric Heisserer and Carmen Lews, part of their first look deal with Legendary (see "Pacific Rim Series").  The series will be a prequel to the movies.
