The box office results and Anime Expo in Los Angeles brought some heat to the Hollywood news cycle.  It's time for a round-up!

Jurassic World Rebirth has hit $147.3 million in domestic box office over the course of the extended five-day July 4th weekend, according to Variety  wasn't quite the $208 million opening that the first Jurassic World (see "Jurassic World") racked up in its opening weekend, but it was probably a good enough opening box office for a franchise that is on its seventh movie over the span of 32 years and becoming a bit long-in-the-tooth.

Warner Bros. has let the rights go for an Akira live-action movie, according to
The Hollywood Reporter The Warners have spent over two decades working on this project, starting over from scratch at various points as different prospective directors bowed out (see "Starting Over On 'Akira' Movie").  The rights for the live-action movie have now officially reverted to Kodansha, the publisher of the manga.

Crunchyroll announced Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 at Anime Expo in Los Angeles.  The second season of the popular fantasy series (see "
ICv2 Interview") will begin streaming on Crunchyroll in January 2026.  Crunchyroll also released the first trailer for S2 (see below).

Crunchyroll also released a trailer for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle (see below).  This movie will hit movie theaters on September 12, 2025 (see "
'Demon Slayer' Movie Gets Dates").

Warner Bros. released a trailer for The Cat in The Hat (see below).  This animated movie stars Bill Hader as the voice of The Cat, and will hit theaters on February 27, 2026.


Marvel Studios revealed a First Look Trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps (see below).  The trailer features director Matt Sherman and producer Kevin Feige highlighting some of the set design elements and special effects that appear in the movie.  It hits theaters on July 27, 2025 (see "
'Fantastic Four'").
