The heat wave is on, and Hollywood news is hot. Time for a round-up!
DC Studios' Superman topped the box office this weekend, according to Deadline. The James Gunn-directed feature (see "'Superman' Trailer ") opened at $122 million at the domestic box office ($217 million globally). This is the third largest opening of 2025.
HBO is working on a new Game of Thrones spinoff, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They have tapped Mattson Tomlin, the co-writer of the upcoming The Batman Part II, to help develop a series revolving around Aegon's Conquest. This series would be set before House of the Dragon, a series that was renewed last year (see "Renewed").
Netflix released a new Wednesday trailer (see below). Wednesday Season 2 will hit streaming in two parts starting August 6, 2025; Part 2 streams September 3, 2025 (see "'Wednesday' S2").
Samuel Goldwyn Films will release a new Red Sonja movie into theaters on August 15, 2025 (see trailer below). This movie, directed by MJ Bassett, stars Matilda Lutz, Martyn Ford, Robert Sheehan, Wallis Day, Michael Bisping, Philip Winchester, Trevor Eve, Luca Pasqualino, and Rhona Mitra. The Red Sonja comic book is currently published by Dynamite Entertainment (see "'Red Sonja Noir' #1").
Paramount Pictures revealed a teaser trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants (see below). This movie will hit theaters on December 19, 2025 (see "Animated Dates, Casting").
Warner Bros. has released the title of the third Dune movie, according to Variety. The movie is simplistically titled Dune: Part Three, and carries on from the end of Dune: Part Two as Paul Atreides ascends the throne as the Emperor (see "'Dune' Opens Big").
