This week’s home entertainment releases won’t overshadow the fireworks, but there are some items of interest including Stephen Chow’s wild Hong Kong fantasy/comedy The Mermaid , a visually stunning Brazilian animated feature, the latest season of the marvelously Machiavellian political drama House of Cards , reasonably-priced collections of The Real Ghostbusters , and a bevy of interesting anime offerings led by the only Studio Ghibli film that has never been released here before and the steampunk sci-fi epic The Empire of Corpses.

The streaming service Netflix announced the launching of five new animated series for kids and renewed Kong: King of Apes for a second season.

Warner Bros. has announced that Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla 2 has been delayed from June 8, 2018 to March 22, 2019.

Artist Joe DeVito, who back in 2004 illustrated Kong: King of Skull Island for Dark Horse, is suing Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. claiming that he created the origin story and universe explaining Kong’s legendary home island.
