ComiXology has announced a deal with Delcourt to distribute the company’s titles in French on the comiXology platform. The new relationship launched with the release of a new version of comiXology’s The Walking Dead app for iOS devices that will include a French language interface and all of Delcourt’s French language editions of the title, including Vol. 17, which was released in French this week. French editions of The Walking Dead will also be available across the comiXology platform on all operating systems.
ComiXology also announced the opening of comiXology Europe, a new division with offices in Paris, to spearhead the acquisition of international content across Europe.
Delcourt (which also includes Soleil) has about a 17% market share of the French market, which has much higher per capita consumption levels than the U.S. ComiXology plans to release all of Delcourt’s library in the first half of 2013 and 2013 releases as they come out. A dedicated app for Lanfeust of Troy and other Arleston series attached to that universe is also planned.
ComiXology is already the top grossing book app in iTunes in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Local language content will build on the company’s significant international business.
