Dynamite Entertainment continues to expand its catalog of comics based on Warner Bros. Discovery properties with Giant-Size Wacky Races, a 40-page one-shot by Batman & Scooby-Doo writer Ivan Cohen and artist Mariano Benitez Chapo. The comic will include the classic characters Penelope Pitstop, Peter Perfect, and Dick Dastardly and his dog Muttley and will be released on April 9, 2025, with covers by Joseph Michael Linsner, Edwin Galmon, and Robert Hack.
"After teaming a cartoon dog and his crime-solving pals with a brooding billionaire vigilante, the logical next step in my career was to update the classic Wacky Races for the 2020s, blending the original cartoon with elements of pro wrestling, action films, and a hint of Furiosa for good measure," Cohen said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
The original Wacky Races animated series ran for just one season, in 1968-69, then returned as reruns for the following season. Western published seven issues of Wacky Races comics under its Gold Key and Whitman brands in 1969-72, and DC Comics gave it the Mad Max treatment in 2016’s Wacky Raceland (see "DC to Launch New Hanna-Barbera Line"). It was also adapted into a game by CMON (see "'Wacky Races'").
Dynamite inked a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Products in 2023 (see "Dynamite to Publish Comics Tied to Warner Bros. Animated Series"), and since then they have released a number of titles, including the upcoming Captain Planet (see "Preview: ‘Captain Planet’ #1").
