Dark Horse has announced it will partner with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products to produce a behind-the-scenes book based on the upcoming Fox Animation Studio film The Book of Life.
The Art of The Book of Life will release on September 3, with the movie set to premiere October 17, 2014. The 3-D, computer animated film is written and directed by Jorge Gutierrez (El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, MAD TV show), produced by Guillermo del Toro, and will star the voices of Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Diego Luna and Christina Applegate.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gutierrez described his obsession with detail and concept art, and even inadvertently tied it to this book release, since he loves to buy "The Art of" books for animated movies he sees. "I saw every single one that comes out and my biggest heartbreak is that I see all this glorious art, and then the movie doesn't look like that!" He said. "The mandate of this movie was: Our 'Art of'' book is going to look exactly like the movie. And every artist poured their heart and soul into that idea."
Set during the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the story focuses on young Manolo, who is torn between what he wants to do (play guitar and win the girl of his dreams) and what his family wants him to do. He will travel across three different worlds to find himself.
